Hi Bram,
I am Aldo Fregoso, the developer behind
StepMania AMX, which is a SM 3.9 fork that DDR folks probably never heard of, but it was the inspiration behind the .SSC file format.
As you've probably already figured out, I'm a Pump It Up guy, and one of the pain points that PIU players like me have had in the past is that StepMania is a DDR simulator with 5 steps (not hating on DDR, but actually pointing out that they're different games and that we can actually appreciate and enjoy them on their own), but apparently it hasn't bothered most players since
StepF2 is a thing, the PIU Scene has built massive projects like
Pump Haven's Nostalgia Pack and even Andamiro built
some official PIU Games with StepMania.
Anyway, I am building a
new simulator from scratch which is backwards compatible with all the step files from PIU 1st to PIU NX2 and actually reads most of the step files from PIU NXA to PIU Prime 2 because Andamiro hasn't really changed the engine in the past 10 years. My intention with that simulator is to allow people to get creative and make complex steps without having to learn Lua scripting.
And this is where I want to ask you if you're interested in having me as a collaborator for Arrow Vortex,
this is a list of all the step formats that I'm planning to support.
I've already built an
editor that doesn't edit yet (lol) for NX10 and NX20 files (here is the
NX20 file of
PIU Fiesta's QH299 mission in case you're curious).
Anyway, thank you for building Arrow Vortex, and thank you for your time and effort, even if you're not interested in collaborating I'm actually in awe of the work you've built and I'll definitely try to take the best ideas from your work when it comes the time to build my own editor. Have a nice day.
