This rule sheet can be used to hold small DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) competitions that shouldn't take longer than two hours. For example, competitions held on conventions (like Anime conventions) or just for fun during a meet in an arcade. The number of participants should be larger than eight but not more than twenty.
The competition is split into four rounds, a qualification round, a quarter finale, a semi finale and the finale.
The participants should not use song mods and only play single or versus steps to keep things fair. The song and difficulty played for each round is fixed and may not be altered by the participants. The difficulty of the song should be easy in the first round (for example three feet) and become progressively harder in the next round (for example, second round four feet, third round five feet and six feet for finale).
The easiest way to compare the results of each participant is to use their scores. Especially the score algorithm used on the latest mixes (DDR max, DDR max 2, DDR extreme, Euromix 2) and Stepmania are quite fair. But other methods like counting the total dance points or perfect are also usable.
Just before the competition starts the referee makes a list of participants and gives each player a unique number. This number is used for the playing order during each round.
Round 1: Qualification
--------------------------
The first round is played by all participants. All players will play one song and everyone will play the same song with the same difficulty. The song and difficulty is chosen by the referee.
The two players with the lowest number will start first. They'll play the selected songs in versus mode. At the end the score of the players is recorded on a list. After the score is noted the next two players will start. This keeps going on until all players have played once.
Afterwards the list of players is sorted on score. The eight players on top of the list (with the highest scores) are through to the second round. The rest has failed and may join the audience.
Round 2: Quarter finale
---------------------------
The second round is played just like the first round. Only eight players are participating now so four games should be enough. After all games have been played and the scores of the players have been noted the score list is sorted again score. The four players with the highest scores are through to the third round.
Round 3: Semi finale
------------------------
The third round is played just like the second and first round. Only four players are participating now so two games should be enough. After all games have been played and the scores of the players have been noted the score list is sorted again score. The two players with the highest scores are going to play the finale.
Round 4: Finale
-------------------
The last round is the finale and two players have to battle for the last time. The player with the highest score will win the competition.
